TEEN PLAY AREA:
Ideally we would love to get a thrilling adventure area for our teenagers but fundraising is really slow for large projects. We fundraised for a very long time for a skate park but, due to the fact that High Green managed to get a new one in 2016, we felt that we should put this on hold for a few years.
We decided to put the money raised to buy a large “Big 6” Swing which was installed in July 2017 on the site of the old playground.
OUTDOOR GYM DETAILS:
The outdoor gym was installed in Sept. 2015 and has been kindly funded by: The Big Lottery Awards for All, Ecclesfield Parish Council, J. G. Graves, North Sheffield Area TARA, Sheffield Town Trust, Sheffield Church Burgess Fund plus Friends contributions and development money. Many thanks to all our sponsors.
WILDFLOWER MEADOW DETAILS:
We received a grant in 2014 from First TransPennine Express Green Grants (part of the Forestry Commission) for improvements to the Oxley Orchard by planting a wildflower/wild fruit tree meadow. This was very successful in 2015 and we managed to obtain funds from the Parish Council to reseed with perenial wild flowers – unfortunately this has not been very successful – we have decided to leave it wild and did put some seeds down in autumn 2017 so hopefully will get a few flowers this year.
This is the glade at the bottom of the park adjacent to Blackburn Brook. We put some log seating in a few years ago but this has rotted so we have arranged for the Rangers to provide 2 new seats at a cost of £400 which we have paid from our funds.
“CHAPELTOWN PARK” SIGN OVER THE ENTRANCE NEXT TO THE NEWTON HALL
This was installed at the end of 2017 and was very generously paid for by Mr & Mrs Gethin who contributed £1000 to the cost of £1600 – SCC Ward Pot provided £500 and Parks Dept paid the remainder. The sign looks very good but we consider that it is not robust enough and also believe that the fittings are very weak and also sharp so are asking Parks Dept to get the contractors to rectify this.
DRAINAGE PROBLEMS IN THE PLAYGROUND
This is a real problem during the winter months and during 2017 we managed to raise £4460 to pay for new drainage and matting to enable people to be able to use the playground during the winter months.
We realise that the playground is at the bottom of a large hill but if it had been placed at a drier position at the top of the park it would have meant that not many people would want to visit it up a very steep hill with a pushchair!
There was a lot of drainage added when it was installed and, hopefully, when the new drainage and matting is added it will resolve the problem.
The funding was kindly provided by: Sheffield Church Burgesses, J.G. Graves, Sheffield Town Trust, Freshgate Trust Foundation, Ecclesfield Parish Council, and Sheffield Ward Pot.
HANDRAIL UP THE MAIN PATHS
Many people have requested this as both the path from the Newton Hall entrance and the one from the playground up to the bandstand are very steep and difficult for elderly visitors and pushchairs.
We have had a quotation from an authorised Parks supplier for £8,500 for this work and are in the process of trying to raise the funds during 2018.
CHAPELTOWN PARK GALA 2018
This will be held on Sat. 7th July from 11am to 3pm. If you would like a stall round the bandstand please contact the Secretary – you will need to provide your own table and small gazebo or sunshade. The cost is £10 which is refundable in case of bad weather.
We are in the process of trying to raise some funding so that we can provide some free attractions such as Go Karts or Zorb Balls as well as free fruit kebabs.
